OXFORD MARTIAL ARTS & FITNESS OUT OF THE RING |
Oxford Martial Arts & Fitness is a proud member of the Infinity Fitness Family |
Taekwondo is defined as "the way of the foot and hand." This Korean martial art emphasizes the use of kicking and punching (using kicking approximately 70% of the time and punching the other 30%). This is simply because the legs are longer and more powerful than the arms, therefore inflicting more damage to one's opponent, whether the conflict occurs in the sparring ring, governed by rules of competition or on the street dominated by, well, let's face it...no rules or you might say, 'survival of the fittest'. The programs at OMAF are designed for the young and young at heart. Students are taught traditional Taekwondo, self-defense, one-step sparring, Olympic style sparring, terminology, taekwondo etiquette, forms, proper kicking, punching, blocking, as well as board-breaking techniques. We are a family-friendly organization. Classes are designed to allow families to take class together. Whatever your goals may be, whether you want to participate in competitions, improve focus and discipline, get in shape, or meet new people and develop friendships that will last a lifetime, we are just the place you're looking for. |
WOW! What an exciting evening on Sunday, September 27, 2014, as blackbelt instructors, led by Master Carman Clark and assisted by Joel Gray, Josh Gray, Mrs. Ashley Gray, Abby Gray, Mrs. Jennifer Eaton, Dr. Barb Gannod, Mrs. Adriel Wiseman, Sarah Eaton, and Barry Gray had the honor of meeting the women of Miami's Kappa Delta Sorority and sharing with them some basic self-defense techniques and information. We couldn't have asked for better weather as we met on the beautiful grounds of MacCracken Hall for this interactive event. It is our desire that NO one would ever have to use any of these moves, but unfortunately, we live in an imperfect world, so if we can make a difference in one person's life by empowering women with something as simple as changing-up a routine or habit (talking on the phone or texting that would shut down one's natural instincts to surrounding dangers), even screaming or yelling to draw attention to a dangerous situation, or if it comes down to it; using these physical techniques to get away from an attacker.... who knows? Maybe we can change this world....one woman at a time. |
FREEDOM ISN'T FREE |
In honor of Crime Prevention Month, Oxford Martial Arts & Fitness taught a self-defense seminar at the Lane Public Library in Oxford on Monday, October 20th. Everyone that attended had a great time as Master Carman Clark, Mr. Joel Gray and Ms. Sarah Eaton demonstrated basic self-defense techniques, while Mr. Barry Gray (retired police officer) talked about being aware of your surroundings, the dangers of having your attention divided by talking on a cell phone (interfering with your natural instinct to alert you to danger), the significance of not "looking" like a victim, and the importance of having a plan. The audience was encouraged to try out these movements on the instructors and one another. A special THANK YOU goes out to Samantha Loopstra and the staff at the Oxford Lane Public Library for giving us this opportunity to serve the citizens of Oxford, Ohio. |
